Tsoha Africa Skills (TASK) Hub is a registered non-profit company that is geared towards holistic artisan skills development training for self-employment of youth, primarily in the township of Diepsloot and surrounding areas. TASK Hub is embarking on this youth empowerment initiative mainly through eight (8) projects, namely: Artisan Skills Development, Farming, ICT & Media, Entrepreneurship, Learning Institutions, Sports & Recreation, Spiritual Support and Counselling & Support.
In today’s fast-paced, ever-changing business landscape, self-employment, including entrepreneurship has become the ultimate career path for innovators, risk-takers, and passionate individuals seeking to make a meaningful impact. Starting and growing a successful business is no easy feat, but the rewards are immense. Entrepreneurship is a journey of self-discovery, creativity, and perseverance. It’s about turning ideas into reality, solving real-world problems, and creating value for others. Aspiring startup founders or self-employed owners must navigate their way to becoming established entrepreneurs.
Self-employment in South Africa was reported at 16,34% (Statista, 2019). The author mentions that entrepreneurial activities in developing, and least developed countries are more often established out of necessity. In contrast, self-employment in some countries in Africa, according to Statista (2019) was over 95 percent of Niger’s working population, which is the highest self-employment share in Africa. Additionally, the author indicated that percentages of over 90 percent were also registered in the Central African Republic, Chad, Guinea, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sierra Leone. In South Africa, statistics show that 39.4% of people are on social grants in 2023.
